The goal is not silence. It is deciding what earns the right to interrupt you. Use this guide to tune Microsoft 365, ChatGPT, Claude, your browser, and your computer.
!
Intrusive noise can be an accessibility issue. The best setting is the one that helps you focus, process information, and do your work. You do not owe every app your attention.
Fastest relief
If you need quiet right now, start with one of these. No filtering required.
Find your controls
Choose a product first, then narrow by application or device.

Some Microsoft 365 and Copilot behaviors are controlled by tenant policy. Copy this request and send it to your IT or accessibility contact.
Subject: Accessibility accommodation — notification and AI-suggestion controls
Hi,
Some notification and "helpful suggestion" features in our Microsoft 365 tenant are managed by policy, so I cannot turn them off myself. Frequent unsolicited interruptions are an accessibility barrier for me and reduce my ability to concentrate and complete work accurately.
Could you please either allow me to control these settings on my own account, or disable them for me:
- Copilot suggestions and prompts in Outlook, Word, Teams, and Windows
- Teams banner, sound, and activity notifications (I would like to set my own)
- Outlook new-mail alerts, reminder pop-ups, and "helpful suggestion" features
- Any tenant-level notification defaults that override my personal settings
Happy to discuss what works within our policy. Thank you.
Let the important things through.
An alert tells you something changed. It does not mean the change deserves your immediate attention.
Choose the one product that interrupts you most. Change one setting, work for an hour, and ask: did the work get better?

This guide is based on product research current through September 2, 2026. Product menus can vary by app version, account type, rollout, and organization policy. A card marked Check your version identifies a control whose exact path or availability is not fully documented by the vendor.
